Pantera are one of the very few bands whose power and influence has remained legendary for decades. According to drummer Vinnie Paul the final unheard piece of music recorded by Pantera will be released on their upcoming reissue of ‘Vulgar Display of Power.’
Pantera officially parted ways due to personal issues in 2003, leaving fans screaming for more of the groove-metal mastery the quartet had provided for more than a decade. Unfortunately those fans would never get the next album they so looked forward to — guitarist Dimebag Darrell was tragically murdered in late 2004 making another Pantera album an impossibility.
Rex Brown was always the mysterious member of Pantera. While Vinnie Paul and Dimebag brought the balls-out metal party every night, and Phil Anselmo was the charismatic, if controversial, lead singer with a million side projects, Rex Brown was more of enigma. Obviously his input was present in Pantera’s power groove—few groups relied so much on the thick, propulsive bass at metal’s core—and later, in Down’s southern sludge, but at the end of the day, Rex seemed more content to stay largely out of the public eye.
